My “Why” for Doing This…
I’m Heidi Thorne, editor of the project. When I started my own company, I had some advanced business degrees and a decade of sales and marketing experience in corporate America, plus years of teaching college. But my real business education started the day I went into business for myself. In fact, I think every MBA student needs to run a small company as a graduation requirement!
The Great Recession of 2008 drew more people into the independent business ranks when many lost their employment and suitable jobs weren’t available. And coming up on the heels of this economic upheaval is Generation Y who is predicted to be a very entrepreneurial crowd due to high competition for career path jobs. In fact, three-quarters of all U.S. business firms have no payroll! Plus, according to the 2008 Census, 78 percent of business firms have less than 20 employees. We are a force to be reckoned with.
Even though there are so many of us, there is no roadmap to riches or even survival. As I’m sure has been the same for you, my path has been lined with successes and challenges, both inside and outside my company. So what this project seeks to do is gather together the wisdom gained by our experience in a book that’s by small business owners, for small business owners.
At the same time, this project will provide small business owners and consultants the opportunity to build their expert status and gain bragging rights as a published contributing author. Imagine a book featuring you and your tips available on the world’s premier bookseller, Amazon.com! And showing or sharing this book with clients and prospects turns it in into the ultimate promotional product. Click the Authors button to see who’s already signed up.
The book is scheduled to publish during the second quarter of 2014. In the meantime, our email updates will keep you informed about new authors joining the project, availability, sneak previews and some quick tips to tide you over until the full book is published. You’ll even get a free tip just for subscribing!
Whether you’re just reading or decide to become one of our featured authors, welcome to the project!
